Masked Curlytail- Leiocephalus personatus actites
This is a
male Hispaniolan
Masked Curlytail- Leiocephalus personatus actites. These are
fairly large
and they come in a variety of colours, with varying amounts of green on
their legs. The
males are more colourful than the females and you often see them bobbing
their heads in display. They are called curlytails because of the way
they carry their tails about. There are several species and sub-species
found in the Dominican Republic. This one was photographed at the Casa
Marina Reef resort in Sosua, north Dom. Rep. They are really pretty and
have a crest running down their backs, which is clearly visible on this
beautiful specimen. Back to top
