About Kat

Hi,

Welcome to the "about me" page! My real name is Jo Dale, but most people know me as Kat or Kittykat23uk on Cool Mini or Not and Yahoo Groups Mini Painter.

If you've not already guessed I'm a complete dragon nut, I just love those big scaly critters! I'm also into Rackham's Wolfen for Confrontation.

I've always been into art and weird/cool monsters but I only got into painting minis in my first year of university, when someone gave me a bunch of skaven to paint (I still have them!) Before that I used to be into building and painting Airfix models (as well as the odd Star Trek model from time to time). I was also into dinos, dragons and other animals (especially large, scaly with lots of teeth or large, fluffy with sharp claws and lots of teeth). I have always had a love of sci-fi especially Star Wars/Star Trek and films like the Aliens/Predator sagas, Jurassic Park series, Terminator movies and the occasional Disney film for good measure.

In fact, I probably wouldn't have got into the whole gaming scene if it weren't for the fact that the university Star Trek society had folded the year before and the Games Soc. seemed like the best alternative. Thank God for that - Editor.

So, I got into the whole roleplay thing. I tried live action vampire for a while but that was too political. I also did LARP (Live Action Role Play), you know running around with rubber swords and stuff. It was okay but I eventually gave it up, too physical for me.

So I really just do table top stuff now, and my favourite system has to be Rifts! Why? 'Cause I get to play a Great Horned Dragon Hatchling! They rock! I also have a tendency to play werecreatures (therionthropes) a lot, especially Mokole/Zhong Lung (just because their Crinos form is a dinosaur - Editor) and surprisingly enough Bastet (especially weretigers) in the World of Darkness system. The game I have been involved in most recently is Star Wars, in which I played a Jedi Kushiban (an alien race that resembles a cross between a cat, rabbit and squirrel).

Anyway, back to the painting. I've always enjoyed painting and doing art and craft stuff and that is my main interest in the wargames hobby. I now have an army of lizardmen but so far I've only played one game and found it very dull. Plus I lose valuable painting time!

Achievements to date

I've entered the UK Golden Demon three times now, and second time around I was a finalist with a Forgeworld Temple Guard. This year I was again finalist with a Forgeworld Fire Dragon in the Open competition. I have also won one local GW competition and one international competition run by an online miniatures company.

I'm a regular forum poster at Cool Mini and have written an article about painting fluffy wolfen. I have also had pictures published in Harbinger Magazine (a UK magazine all about miniatures).

Other hobbies

I have recently passed my PADI Open Water Diver course in the red sea and am looking forwards to doing more scuba diving in the future.
