Wizards of the Coast - Half Dragon Mage

Equus on Cool Mini sent me the Dragons II box set as part of our mini exchange project. This was one of the miniatures from that box set. It is a Half Dragon mage and I was inspired by the amazing paint job that Eric J on CMON did on a Dragyri Wail. So basically, I used a lot of thin washes of shadow grey, mixed with some vallejo turquoise and green-grey for the highlights on the skin, shaded with some imperial purple mixed with shadow grey and a touch of pink.

A bit of scaly green was mixed in to paint the scales on the underside of the tail. The cloth was also painted with scaly green, this time on a base coat of black, then highlighted up, with progressively more green-grey and turquoise added to the edges of the folds.

The base was then painted to look like ripples, and some water lilies were sculpted out of greenstuff and painted using the same colours as for the clothes and the pinkish tones used to shade the skin were picked up in the flowers. The water is made with a thin layer of epoxy resin glue.
