Aww, I've always had a soft spot for basilisks (I think they're cute) so this new sculpt from Reaper was joy to paint. The flesh was painted using a basecoat of imperial purple, mixed with progrssively more terracotta. This was also mixed with some catachan green and bleached bone for the underside and catachan green mixed with belached bone was also used to pick out the small scales. I also washed these areas with a thinned mix of purple ink. The spines on the back were painted using scorched brown as a basecoat, mixed with progressively more scrufulous brown and graveyard earth, each time painting progressively thinner stripes of the highlights (a similar technique to painting fur on wolfen), adding more and more bleached bone, then ivory. Then the whole area was washed with a thinned down mix of purple and brown ink. The eyes were picked out using scaly green mixed with scorpy green and white.
